CAL Communications, Inc. was founded
in 1987 by Carlos, Al and Nelson Lopez. CAL quickly
gained a reputation as an advanced telecommunications
interconnect company, able to sell and service small
PBXs and key systems in Illinois and nationally. Under
the leadership of Carlos Lopez, CALCOMM established
an excellent reputation as a fair and progressive employer.
As a Hispanic-owned company, CAL is certified as an
MBE/DBE with the Chicago Minority Business Development
Council (CMBDC), The City of Chicago, and The State
of Illinois. CALCOMM meets and complies with all the
requirements and criteria for such certifications as
set by the U.S. Government and Fortune 500 Corporations.
CAL is a Registered Electrical Contractor with the City
of Chicago; is a member in good standing of The International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union (IBEW Local
#134, 150, 176, 364, 461 & 701, ), the Hispanic
American Construction Industry Association (H.A.C.I.A.),
the Building Industry Consulting Service International
(BICSI), Association of Subcontractors & Affiliates
(ASA), Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Latin
American Chamber and the Chicago Minority Business Development
Council, Inc.
In the years following its founding, CALCOMM has become
recognized as a leader in the design and installation
of low-voltage and fiber optic connectivity. CALCOMM's
offerings expanded to include operating a hosted VOIP
PBX delivering services to clients across the U.S. As
part of that business initiative, CALCOMM petitioned
for and was approved as an Illinois Competitive Local
Exchange Carrier (CLEC) a status that CALCOMM still
maintains. In 2006, CAL launched its Digital Out of
Home (DOOH) network, focusing on delivering advertising
content into retail and other high-traffic locations.
CALCOMM competed for and was
awarded contracts for implementing both wired and wireless
voice and data connectivity for large infrastructure
projects at Chicago's Soldier Field, O'Hare Airport
and Midway Airport. CALCOMM is the contractor that maintains
the electric tram serving the O’Hare International Airport
terminals and parking lots.
CALCOMM, already a Chicago Master
Distributor of Cricket® Wireless products and services,
recognized the market potential of the deployment of
CLEAR’s 4th Generation WiMAX network and in 2009 was
appointed one of CLEAR’s few Distributors, responsible
for implementing and managing the CLEAR offerings marketed
and sold by private retail sales locations across the
U.S.
